Review: RMS Uncover-Up Concealer (Shade 00)

RMS Uncover-Up Concealer (Shade 00)

“A skin-perfecting, illuminating concealer / light foundation for the eyes and face to give the skin a more youthful, radiant glow while hiding any imperfections.”

The thing about natural skincare and make-up is that it is more expensive than most of the conventional chemical laden crap. Well, actually it isn’t. I think the issue is the price vs the worry that the product might not perform that great. As well as this, there are so many products on the market today it is saturated. So many new and innovative brands that look amazing and perform amazing too. Brands created by blogger’s or celebrities like Fenty, or brands that quickly catch a cult following like Glossier. These brands are paving the way in inclusivity or creativity that makes us want to latch on and try the next best thing. However, a concern of mine is what might be in the ingredients.

I’m also guilty of following the product trend train; dropping £££ on things that claim to heal my acne, but these days my focus is on the naturals. Focusing on an almost “niche” area of products definitely minimises the temptation to try everything. This also helps me grow into my products to give them a real go and see if they perform.

RMS was a brand I’d heard about even before moving into clean skincare and beauty. I think this concealer in particular could be described as a cult favourite and I can see why. I’ve been using this product for a few months now and I have to say it has a much bigger dent in the product than it did when I first took these product pictures.

The Uncover Up Concealer is now my ride or die. Not only can it be used as a concealer in specific areas of the face, ontop of foundation, or to add more coverage to certain areas; but it can also be used as an all over foundation. I know what you’re thinking: surely if I use this everyday as an all over foundation then the product won’t last very long? Wrong. A little goes a very long way with this stuff. The product is so pigmented that it hides and corrects even the darkest of acne marks. It has a thick texture without be blocking to the pores. However, as this is a coconut oil based product it doesn’t agree with everyone’s skin type and can be quite heavy on sensitive skin types. For me, this product works a dream. At first I did stop using it as I thought it was causing me breakouts. I now don’t use this on my forehead as I don’t feel I need coverage in that area at all. I use it in other places of my face that suffer breakouts: cheeks, around the mouth, under the cheek bones etc.

I have found that by living in London my skin is exposed to a lot more pollution. I didn’t wear make-up for almost a year before moving here as I realised my skin needed to breath more and the conventional products I was using wasn’t helping my skin at all. Living in London, however, I really enjoy having the layer on natural concealer over my skin. I keep it light, but I feel this concealer creates a protective barrier over my skin which in tern has helped improve my acne prone areas.

As mentioned, the texture of this product is quite thick. It can also feel sticky on the skin when you first use it if you’re used to something that sets into the skin. When I first started using this I felt like it was very dewy and moved on the skin. Now I find it helps to stay on the skin if I apply my bronzer before and after applying the concealer. I do this also because I have pale skin and this colour is very light. When I apply powder bronzer to my jawline over this product it can cause it to be removes from the blemishes which can be a nightmare. Practise makes perfect with any new product being used. However, if you don’t suffer active blemishes then you’ll love this even more.

I apply this product with a small brush to the areas I want it then press it into the skin with my finger. My fingers help warm the product which melts it into the skin so it looks more natural. I find that this lasts all day on the skin and I personally don’t reapply this throughout the day, but I do find that around my mouth area it does start to separate. When this happens, I just use my fingers to dab over the product and remelt it into the skin.

I really love this product. The packaging is so luxurious, sturdy, eco friendly and amazing. It lasts for a long time and the coconut oil base without any water in the ingredients means it will last a long time. Having an oil base stops products without preservatives from going rancid for even longer. I am excited to try even more natural products from RMS with my newest purchase being the Buriti Bronzer.
