Review: Meow Meow Tweet Eucalyptus Lemon Deodorant Stick

Meow Meow Eucalyptus Lemon Deodorant

“A stick deodorant that is a synergy of potent plant and mineral powders with sweet smelling and mighty essential oils that will keep you smelling oh-so-fresh! With skin-conditioning, organic plant oils and butters, this deodorant stick is gentle yet effective, and house in entirely biodegradable packaging.”

I’d been using Schmidt’s natural deodorant consistently for almost a year before I decided to purchase, and try, something different. I was drawn to Meow Meow as I think it’s a relatively new brand, but also because the packaging, branding, and the name are all just so cute and funky. I love the bright colours, and the small graphics of the logo and the cat doing cardio. I’ve tried a lot of natural deodorants at this point, and you can see that selection by clicking here. If you’ve read any of my previous posts then you’ll know I’m quite sweaty and like something strong. I’m someone who doesn’t get a reaction from bicarbonate soda, so that’s why I can use this one as well as the Schmidt’s original, not sensitive, options. From the Schmidt’s review, click here.

Product Review

I love this deodorant after using it for a few weeks, and I especially love the scent. It’s described as Eucalyptus and Lemon, but these scents are very subtle as they are from essential oils. I would say this smell is similar to the Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Deodorant Paste, and has a subtle scent of turmeric and lemon. This is strange since turmeric isn’t in the ingredients list (thank goodness or I’d have a yellow armpit), but this could be from the arrowroot powder. Either way, it’s very subtle, not overpowering, stays fresh when worn in the day, and isn’t invasive.

The texture of this product is very smooth, but slightly gritty from the powder. The slight grittiness isn’t obvious when the product is applied to the armpit, as it isn’t scratchy when applied. It’s quite creamy from the shea butter and cacao seed butter. The texture is solid, but melts into the skin when applied to warm skin. The arrowroot powder and sodium bicarbonate thickens the butters and create the grittiness. This is creamy when on the skin, and isn’t sticky at all. On the skin there is a layer of deodorant, but I can’t feel it at all. It melts when the body warms up, but doesn’t smear everywhere. However, this product does transfer onto clothing.

When I first used this product I thought it only worked for a few hours; maybe 4. However, after using it for a few weeks I feel my body PH has started to work with this product. When I apply it in the morning it lasts around 7 hours even in 20+ degree temperatures, but when using natural deodorants I always plan to wipe off and reapply during the day. This isn’t a problem for me as I feel natural deodorants are very important.

I would say this is one of the best deodorants I have tried. It is better for sensitive skin than the Schmidt’s natural deodorant even though the ingredients are similar. This is mainly due to the fact the texture is smoother and less hard and gritty, and the essential oils are much more subtle and light. The staying power and strength is really good so would work for sweaty folk like. The things that sets it apart from the Schmidt’s one for me would be:

  1.  It doesn’t last as long. Which is great for not so strenuous days, but I wouldn’t carry it in my bag with me.

  2. The cost per amount. This product costs £12.50 for 50g, whereas Schmidt’s is £10.00 for 92g.

  3. The Packaging.

The packaging is great in terms of being environmentally friendly. It is made from cardboard so it recyclable and probably biodegradable. However, the product leaves an oily mark on the cardboard as it almost penetrates it. When applied to the skin it does get messy and around the top of the container. This is me being picky as apart from that it’s great. It looks a bit messy, but it’s so easy to apply. The product is pushed up from underneath, so is so simple and easy to use.

The product is also vegan and cruelty free. I definitely recommend.
