Review: Truth Paste Natural Mineral Toothpaste

Natural Mineral Truth Paste in Peppermint and Wintergreen

“Natural clay based toothpaste with Aloe Vera, Neem and Myrrh.

No foaming agents, bleaching agents, artificial preservatives or colourants. No fluoride, SLS or Glycerin. 100% natural ingredients.”

I was very pleasantly surprised when I started using this toothpaste. I realised straight away how much I was going to love it, and I was so so right. At first, I thought this product was going to be all packaging and no payoff; but I was so wrong. On my journey to natural products and ingredients, one thing that I have grown to love is toothpaste is a no-foam formula. This might sound like a bizarre concept, but I urge you to try it. And this product in particular comes in small trial sizes like this one (40g), so you won’t have to commit to weeks and weeks of use if you hate it, but I really think you won’t.

“truthpaste is the UKs first zero-waste and cruelty free mineral based toothpaste. Each handmade jar contains the finest grade of bentonite clay, combined with organic neem and aloe vera, myrrh and a unique blend of essential oils.

“The innovative formula was designed utilising Ayurvedic wisdom and modern research to harness the medicinal properties of its botanical ingredients. truthpaste has strong anti-septic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help fight the bacteria that cause decay, gingivitis and gum disease.”

The ingredients in this toothpaste are 100% natural. They include: Aloe leaf juice, Calcium carbonate, Bentonite, Xylitol, Peppermint oil, Sodium Bicarbonate, Neem seed oil, Wintergreen leaf oil, Eucalyptus leaf oil, Myrrh oil, Limonene, Lemon peel oil, Clove bud oil, Cinnamon bark oil, Eugenol, Linalol, Benzyl Benzoate, and Citronellol.

I was shocked during my first use with this product. Most toothpastes I’ve tried, natural or not, seem to have an almost sweet but fresh mint flavour. However, this one does not mess around with the sweetening. The flavour, in my opinion, is hardcore mint, and does not mess around. The scent is a clear giveaway of the strength of the flavour as just one whiff makes my nose tingle, but I still wasn’t expecting the freshness.

This product is flavoured and scented with peppermint, wintergreen and eucalyptus oil. The flavour is very strong, so may take some getting use to, and sensitive mouths may not like this. But I love the taste and smell. It leaves my mouth feeling very clean, which is what I look for in a toothpaste (obviously).

Due to the clay formula, this toothpaste is very thick. It has exactly the texture of any clay product, and is very gritty in the mouth. I also find that as this product is no foaming whilst being very thick, it can stick to areas of the mouth, so I recommend rinsing properly afterwards. One thing I noticed with this toothpaste is the feeling that all my mouth germs were being pulled out of my mouth, which to me is a good thing. However, because this toothpaste is so strong, try not to get it too far on your tongue or throat as it made me want to gag before I had got used to it (sorry for the graphic explanation).

This product definitely works for me, and is one of the better natural toothpastes that I have tried. However, I do feel that as I get used to using natural toothpastes they are starting to perform better. This could be due to be getting used to them.

Even though this product has a strong flavour, it doesn’t harm the mouth. I didn’t get any ulcers like I used to with chemical loaded fluoride toothpastes. One thing I will say about this product is that it didn’t keep my mouth feeling fresh all day. I felt that around midday I needed a minty refresh, so bare this in mind. However, apart from that it really does work. It cleaned my teeth properly even without foaming, and I felt all the plaque was gone after brushing. I highly recommend this product.

  • Grittiness of the product is left on teeth after brushing, so I recommend rinsing properly.
  • Vegan and cruelty free product.
  • Support a small UK based brand.
  • I bought this product from my local health food store.
  • Comes in different jar quantities.
  • I wouldn’t recommend this for young children as the taste is strong.
  • Very thick textured product.
  • The jar can easily be reused.
  • Has to be applied with something onto the toothbrush; I used an organic cotton bud.
  • I would definitely buy this product again, and really recommend anyone buy it. It may seem like a strange concept at first, but you’ll probably love it.
