Review: Neal’s Yard Remedies Lavender & Aloe Vera Deodorant for Sensitive Skin

NEAL’S YARD REMEDIES: LAVENDER & ALOE VERA DEODORANT

“An effective natural deodorant for SENSITIVE SKIN.

“With soothing Aloe Vera and cleansing essential oils: Lavender, Tea Tree and Ylang Ylang; combined with an extract of Alpine Moss.”

Isn’t the packaging for Neal’s Yard products just so so beautiful?! I have seen people re-using the blue bottles as small vases and I absolutely love the look. However, I bought this deodorant for reasons other than the packaging. I bought it because I have previously tried the roll on deodorant from the brand and really loved it, you can read that post here, so I wanted to try out something similar to see what I thought.

SCENT

As the packaging suggests, this product smells like lavender. I used to hate the smell of lavender but now I love it. It’s subtle, mild, relaxing and not overwhelmingly potent like the scent of some conventional deodorants. I like that it is fresh, but not too strong. I personally can’t smell the aloe vera, but I can smell a hint of ylang ylang when I first spray the product. There is also a very very slight alcohol smell as that is the first ingredient on the ingredients list. Luckily the alcohol smell doesn’t linger, but the actual scent of the deodorant doesn’t stick around all day either, and this product has to be reapplied for freshness.

INGREDIENTS

The product is naturally scented with essential oils, which gives it the natural lavender scent. Other ingredients includes: Alcohol denat., Water, Aloe Vera leaf juice powder, Lavender oil, Ylang Ylang flower oil, Tea tree leaf oil, Glycerin, Sodium Lichen extract, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl benzonate, Benzyl salicylate, Coumarin, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geaniol, Isoeugenol, Limonade, Linalool. A lot of these ingredients I don’t recognise, which is something I avoid when buying beauty products. However, this deodorant doesn’t include any Mineral oils, Synthetic fragrances or colours, GMOs, Parabens or Silicones.

TEXTURE

This product is a liquid, so the texture is very wet. When this product is applied to the armpit it takes about 2-3 minute to dry which is not ideal. I keep my arms slightly elevated whilst the product dries so I don’t disrupt it. As the product is wet, it feels very cold when first applied, and due to the alcohol content it also stings, so even though this product is for sensitive skin it wouldn’t be suitable for very sensitive skin in my opinion. The spray of the packaging distributes the product very well, but I do 2 or 3 sprays for each arm to ensure the product is distributed evenly.

REVIEW

I think this product is good for days that don’t include much strenuous activity as it isn’t very preventative against strong odour or perspiration. This product isn’t an antiperspirant as most natural deodorants aren’t, so it doesn’t stop the wearer from sweating. This means that armpits do feel damp when wearing this product. With this in mind, I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who is quite sweaty, or for use during exercise. I wear this deodorant when I know I won’t be doing too much, and then it lasts for about 5 hours before needing to be re-applied for freshness.

This product comes with a reasonable amount included. However, as the spray application is very strong a lot of product is applied with each spray. This means that the product is finished quite quickly and lasts for 4-6 weeks. As the product isn’t very strong and doesn’t last all day, the re-application means the product is finished even quicker.

I like that this product is very easy to wash off and doesn’t cling to the armpit skin. The product isn’t sticky on the armpit either, and is very comfortable to wear. The armpit doesn’t feel coated and because it isn’t an antiperspirant the skin can still breathe. However, due to the very mind scent I didn’t feel very protected against odour, and didn’t feel as fresh as I would like during the middle of the day. This product would be good for people who don’t sweat much or anyone willing to clean or dry the armpit in the middle of the day before re-application.

I personally wouldn’t repurchase this product as it isn’t very strong or advanced at protecting against bacteria scent. I prefer something a bit stronger for protection, and if you do too then check out my review for Schmidt’s deodorant.
