Welcome to Millie Melissa B 2.0 for 2017.
I have decided I’m going to upgrade. Not because I don’t like the direction my blog is heading, but because I know I can do better and improve my content. In terms of the layout and blog theme that I have, I’m slightly bored of it and want to switch it up to look more sleek and professional. In terms of my photography, I want to improve the lighting and composition. And in terms of content, I’m honing in on my specific niche.
It has been a year since I first started my blog and it was only about 3 months ago that I discovered the niche of which to focus within. When I first started I wasn’t sure what I wanted to blog about I just wanted to write and I thought that it needed to be done in a certain way. So my older posts don’t hold much passion at all. Since going vegan I considered turning my blog into a place predominantly about veganism but then I realised that I have more to say and share, about fashion and beauty and advice etc.
Moving forward I’m honing in on my definite interests that won’t be too dissimilar to topics discussed previously, but will be more in depth and written to a higher standard.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
A New Layout – A slightly different, sleeker, professional, updated theme.
Higher Quality Photography – Better lighting & more variety with my composition.
More In-Depth Writing – Longer blog posts that are more in depth and without any ambiguity.
A Set Posting Schedule – Expect a post twice a week, Sunday morning at 8:30 & Wednesday evening at 18:00.
For January: A new post every other day. Yes, I’m posting every other day in January! (On the odd numbers)
During 2016 and after going vegan I realised my guilt for shopping from fast fashion retailers. Due to my degree, I began researching into the ethics and sustainable standards of the fashion industry and discovered that fast fashion rarely coincides with sustainability. Especially in terms of the amount of waste product produced from a whole lot of cheaply priced and bad quality clothing. I also realised the grey area surrounding ethical practises within the manufacturing of garments. So with many unanswered questions I decided to boycott fast fashion which you will know if you have read my previous posts on this topic.
For 2017 I’m focusing more on sustainable fashion and living with less. I want to show you how you CAN wear the same thing over and over again and how it won’t break and need to be binned. As a blogger there is a stigma attached that you have to shop, and especially if you’re a fashion blogger. But this level of keeping up with the Jones’s is exhausting and expensive. Even if the products are cheap, the cost still adds up. I may be introducing you to small brands that are sustainable and focus more on better quality items that are made to last years and years. These items will obviously have a higher price tag than bargain retailers but are made to stand the test of time and are worth every penny.
Natural Beauty & DIYs
The ingredients pumped into affordable cosmetics these days are nothing more than skin stripping poisonous chemicals that we should not be putting onto our skin. More than 80% of what we put onto our skin is absorbed into our bodies so if we wouldn’t eat it, we shouldn’t wear it. From SLS in shampoo to fluoride in toothpaste, contrary to popular belief. we don’t actually need it so I’m going to show you how to avoid it.
And honestly, we don’t need most of the products anyway. To make it easier within the ingredient battle, we can make our own products. So I’m focusing on 100% natural products from now on as well as vegan, and cruelty free. I’m going to be DIYing skincare products, body products, and toothpaste. The next step will be finding natural make-up and this will be the real learning curve.
I’ve already posted a few recipes that I have managed to master but I want to get cooking more variety of food to share with you on my blog. I love cooking whole plant based vegan foods that are healthy and satiating. I want to inspire people to change their lifestyle and show everyone that it is as simple as you want to make it. So expect to see more healthy, vegan, oil free recipes. Some simple and easy, and others more complex.
I’m hoping to do a few more interviews here and there with small ethical and sustainable companies to help promote to products and show you all a better alternative. I also find these interviews really inspiring in terms of living in a more eco-friendly way as well as motivational advice on starting your own business. I feel like most of what I’m focusing is going against the “societal norm” and being able to be your own boss might seem that way too, but anything really is possible.
I listen to a lot of podcasts, TED talks, and self help books so I’m so passionate about self improvement. Expect blog posts about self love, confidence, living the life you want to, my personal journey, and creating my own reality. I might also tough on mindfulness including meditation and how I relax and stay possitive on a bad day. Life is a work in progess and perfection doesn’t exist but everyone deserves to be happy and live a full life.
I really hope that you are excited for the new year and for what is come on Millie Melissa B during 2017. It took me a lot of back and forth before I realised what it is that I’m really passionate about sharing. Promoting products and brands that I don’t back 100% doesn’t align with my morals and I want everything that I show to be helping our planet in someway.
Thank you for sticking around!
